FEAR, notđŸ‘»

Churchill | Courage | Beliefs

Last week, I talked about our many identities. This week as we transformed for Halloween, a spooky special focused on FEARs.

Today’s letter falls on the 1st of November, which is All Saints Day in Christianity, Halloween yesterday, and tomorrow the famous Dias de Muertos in Mexico.

From religious to pagan beliefs, this time of year is charged with remembering, celebrating, and carnivals of sorts.

I would love to visit Mexico for Los Dias de Muertos. Mexicans cherish and celebrate their lost ones in such a colorful and vibrant style!

Halloween is different, yet lots of costumes. I properly discovered Halloween when I studied in Boston, US, which was a stone’s throw away from Salem, where so many ‘witches’ were infamously condemned to death.

At Halloween, all the monsters are out: mummies, vampires, ghosts, zombies, Michael Jackson, the Grinch, Donald Trump, the chainsaw killers, Dolly Parton, and Liz Truss! They scare us, threaten us and we FEAR them! But often those we FEAR the most are ourselves — the stories we build and invent, and the world we create around what doesn’t exist.

Isn’t FEAR just False Evidence Appearing Real? Or even worse, when it is not even evidence, like False Expectations Appearing Real?

Last week I was coaching someone who had a total FEAR of presenting. Self-deprecation was her starting position. She created her own beliefs and FEARs, of what people might think of her, her look, how articulate she was, etc.

We all FEAR something, it is human nature as we are so good at creating some crazy stories, making our minds up, inventing things, creating blockages, FEARs of:

  • Commitment

  • Failure

  • Being an imposter

  • Being seen

  • Not being loved

  • Being judged

  • Success

  • Not being enough

  • Being alone

  •
and it goes!

What are those FEARs that control you? How do they help us? What is there to learn?

What happens if we are FEAR less? 200,000 years ago, FEAR had a purpose — to protect us from the lion in the bush — but how does it help you today? FEAR helps us “fight” or “fly” as our system gets into shock
but it can also “freeze” us, so we then do nothing!

FEAR seems to be a reaction — maybe it’s time to take the decision of what to fear and not to fear and see it as Face Everything And Rise.

With support, my coachee faced the challenge of a new presentation last week. She not only smashed it, but she was also actually so good that she received unprompted congratulations notes (she was in total disbelief), and the global exec committee wants to meet her!

How can I serve you? I would love to support you further by serving you and offering you coaching sessions on today’s topic, helping you gain the courage to face your challenge! Get in touch today for an empowering chat HERE

What lies beyond your fears?
