AwarenessđĄ
Consciousness | Algorithm | Deepak Chopra
Last week, I talked about values, this week, I will discuss awareness.
If you recall the previous week I talked about feelings, back in November I explored habits, and back in June last year (if you can think back that far) I discussed the self in Thyself . All those topics have a common theme: awareness.
Are we aware and conscious of things? Do we see? Do we realize? And what is it that we see or realize? What are our constructs? What is our perception?
Look around. Among your family, co-workers, and friends, can you see how everyone has different levels of perception?
As explained a few weeks ago, are we aware of our feelings? If we donât name them, or try to unconsciously suppress them, how can we be aware of them? Same for our values, do we know what they are?
As humans, our unconscious drives us, almost on autopilot in many things we do. Right or wrong, empowering or disempowering, supporting or arming, the software runs us.
What is interesting to me is our own realization of the hidden part of the iceberg. The one we donât see, donât name, ignore voluntarily or involuntarily.
It becomes a liberating process, yet possibly long and painful to bring this submerged part back to the surface, and gosh it might be overwhelming!
As our own human nature wouldnât be enough, tech is piling up on this loophole, building ever cleverer algorithms that define our wants and select what we are aware of.
Algorithms feed us what we search for. So, how can you expect to be even more aware of what is, or could be when you are fed âthe sameâ product, video, song or belief?
Today, who decides for youâŚ
Amazon? â what you buy
Facebook? â what you know
Google? â what you find
YouTube? â what you see
Netflix? - what you watch
Spotify? â what you listen to
etc.
I would love for you (and me!) to say no to this question, but can we really truly do that?
As we are here together to challenge each other, I would like to leave you with this self-mastery pyramid below.
Unsurprisingly, self-mastery starts with the awareness of self, so own it and donât delegate it to anything or anyone else!
Question:
How could you benefit from an increased awareness of self?
What are your blind spots?
